Its another gorgeous day in Marmaris but we must stay on top of things or the yacht will look like we just did 2000 nautical miles and left it on the hook. Oh wait…we did! Living the dream ain't all sand, sea and sunsets by a long shot.
After a perfect evening out with Dave and his daughter Sara we had what the Brits call 'a lie-in.' Then after much coffee we both got straight to work. Jeff set about washing the salt off of the hull, which is a Herculean task on a 60 foot yacht, which he managed to do from the dingy whilst holding on to the hull and pushing himself away scrubbing at the same time. I drew the brightwork straw and spent 3 hours polishing as much stainless as I could stand to in the hot sun: upstands, winches, cleats, you name it I polished it. She is starting to look like herself again though I only managed to get about a third of it done. Jeff suggested I do an hour each day and not kill myself, which sounds better, but with a 40 hour a week job it does pose a challenge.
I also managed to get by butt into Marmaris on Saturday for a little bit of retail therapy. But even that proved to be sidelined earlier on by trouble with the outboard. Our normal outboard is being serviced so Jeff put the old one on, and it chose to give us grief. After cabbing to a shop for spark plugs, while I waited with the dingy, Jeff was able to safely say it didn't need spark plugs. But he got it started and made the trek back to Belvedere and I went about getting to know Marmaris better. Mostly, I just walked around as there are so many 'genuine fake' stores, etc I found myself overwhelmed by it all. I promptly went back to Netsel Marina where there are nicer, more honestly purveyed goods and bought a couple of things and felt like a spend thrift.
Upon getting back to the boat with my loot, and some requested carburetor cleaner for Jeff's spare outboard, I was able to tally up my spend. The four hundred Turkish Lira I felt guilty to have parted with, in actuality, was a whopping 30 pounds sterling. Cha-Ching! And that includes the cab ride home and lunch for us both.
