Monday, 30th August

The day began with the halyard breaking just after hoisting the genoa. For those not in the know, the genoa is a big-ass sail and incredibly heavy. They look light but they are anything but, see below photo:

We first tried to pull it up but that wasn't going to work and the calm waters managed to push it under the boat. Jeff was able to wrangle enough up (I tried to help but was mostly in the way) to get a new halyard on and we could SLOWLY hoist it up and get it flying again. We'll be sorting that out somewhere along the way in a port that is yet to be determined.

Around 07:45 we were back and sailing on our way to the northeast side of Sardinia hoping to make it to the Maddalena Islands. So far, so good and the calm and gentle winds together with the assistance of the trusty Yanmar have made for an otherwise good day at sea.

About The Author

I'm a fairly accomplished veteran of graphic design who struggled to find work for 4.5 years after moving to be with Jeff: 'Unknown and Over Qualified'. Luckily, I finally found employment with a company that chose to have me 'live the dream' and still work for them from Belvedere.

If you need an amazing kitchen please contact ECF, ltd in rural Leicestershire and tell them Belvedere sent you.

PS: I love dogs and the occasional pint 'o Guinness. So what would be better than a pint 'o Guinness with Rolfy?
