I missed last week's update as we were busy having the galley worktops done. We are happy to report them 90% in. The carpenter has had to put them in temporarily while one portion of the worktop is remade. The offending piece is 3mm too short creating a knock-on effect that would be ten times more work with a 'meh' outcome. When we leave for the states for the holidays in December the contractors will then do the final installation. Nothing is simple on a yacht.
With the cabinets 'secured', we've set off Göcek and Fethiye with our friends Dave and Tina of Big Sky for a couple weeks to make it back to where Jeff and I always said we'd return via our own yacht. We were last there in 2017 with Mick and Jill Lemon and we hope they'll be able to join us sometime in the coming year. Along the way we stopped off at Wall Bay for the night on their pontoon, which is 'free' if eating in their restaurant Adaia. With it being Tina's birthday we figured this was a must as the location is stunning and the atmosphere beyond your imagination. The accommodation for the yachters on the pontoon and the facilities are 5-star so we got to be 'those people' for the night. The price of the meal (which was good but not fantastic) matched the 5-stars mentioned, so while not something we'd do often, a good time was had by all and the memories of that place made it worth it.
Click the slideshow above. I'm figuring out this blog thing a big better…
After much wine and food we all headed to bed to wake up to this, the Carrefour grocery boat! It has most of the basics and nothing exciting, but I had to have a look and buy a couple of things just because I could.
Once provisioned we decided to make our way to Göcek. The lovely people at YES Marine arranged for us to pick up the new membranes for the water maker there as its on the way to Fethiye and we love it there. I have no idea why I only took these two pics, but I suppose it all starts to look the same. Lots of water, mountains and fancy yachts that dwarf ours, as shown below: this one is called Life Saga and is owned by some Russian guy worth about 500 million or so, the running costs of which are 5 million dollars a year. Fun to look at but certainly makes you shake your head in disbelief that some have so much and other nothing. Another reason I am thankful we've been able to eek out this lifestyle for ourselves with a fraction of the decimal points seen below.
Do you see the little person standing 4th window from the left on the second deck below?
We are now anchored in Fethiye and we've been warned to expect rain this week. However, the days are still in the lower 20º C (68-70º F) so we can't complain. We were disappointed to find some of our favourite places gone (or changed to something new) but as they say, "the only thing constant is change," so we've vowed to find some new favourites.
Tomorrow is Tuesday, November 23nd and market day in Fethiye so I've taken a half day off to go into town with Jeff in search of genuine fake leather goods and other Turkish delights. I'll be sure to get some pics of the colourful displays and the town. Thanks for reading and for your patience as I balance work and play with this blog thing. Tina says, 'hi' and I've included a pic of Jeff and I for proof of life of the Captain.
